A Computer Disastor

March 14th, 2007 by Jeff Kee

I haven’t updated my blog in nearly 48 hours, only because my laptop screen went bunk last night. I can still see things but half hte colors are reversed, and the repair centre’s diagnosis was that the chipboard in the LCD screen was cracked or broken. Essentially it means my laptop was bust, and to repair it would cost time and money.

I purchased a new Macbook Pro 15.4″ today and I love it. I’m still in the middle of transferring all the files and data over and setting up all my software. It’s tough because my software library was obviously for Windows XP, and now I have to re-collect all the pertinent software for my Mac all over again.

With some help from friends and what not I’m successfully recovering my goodies, and I will be back at full pace again soon.

I do need to tend to contracts with clients first, and to make up for 2 days lost while panicking and then purchasing a new laptop etc., I will have to really step on the gas I suppose.

Thank you all.

I’m glad you like the Mac Book. You might consider posting a comparison between Mac/PC once you get used to the Mac, it would be useful to those of us who plan to avoid Vista :).

I’ll probably end up posting at least 10 posts comparing Macs and PCs

we all now the answer to that already! haha, welll actually, OS X i a much more productive and efficient system, you are not slowed down by skyware, viruses and those anooying boxes that pop up every time you click to do sometign! another problem with vista is the mount of system resources it uses, just to make it look as pretty as os x. Again the best option is to buy a mac with os x and run parrallels or bootcamp so you can also run windows ( xp and vista compatible)
see my post regarding bootcamp vs parrallels here

one last thign to remember, mac’s new OS 10.5 is due out soon, that will completely destroy anything microsoft TRIED to do with vista, heres the link to the new 10.5 for mac

ooo nice buy with the Mac Book!

If I had one I’d run XP on it though. I had an iBook with OSX on it, whilst it was ok, you couldn’t do as much as you can with XP.

Jeff, you gotta’ let me know what you paid and how it’s running. I’ve got to do something before I’m forced into Vista.

$2373 Canadian with taxes.

it’s the 15.4 inch model - not the gigantic (and expensive) 17″ model, although I miss the large screen. But I wasn’t ready to cough up 3 thousand and taxes right now so I had no choice.

I like it so far, it’s going quite good.
