SCREW MICROSOFT

For god’s sake. I hate Internet Explorer. And I hate microsoft now.
As a web designer/developer, a growing challenge was to make sure my websites are compatible with both IE and FF. Honestly, this is such a pain in the ass. Of course, I tried to tell myself “They’re just different.. they parse differently… calm down…” But I’ve had enough.
Yes, it’s so frustrating. Flash video is supposed to be the most compatible and widespread way (98%) to embed videos, so i installed the player on my server and installed the WP plug in.
It doesn’t work very well in IE. I’m sure a lot of you IE visitors cannot see the video on the front page on my entry on my home-office laptop configuration. Which is a shame. It’s a great video.
Anyhow, I just have to be a hater and a discriminating bastard now. It’s not just me so it is justified.
I won’t even bother listing all the little things that IE parses oddly.
I HATE MICROSOFT, and INTERNET EXPLORER.
The whole point of all this technology is to make things efficient. To make things efficient, they standardized measurements. Although we still have a hefty bunch of people who like to measure by inches and gallons rather than the scientific method (you can’t really apply digit-increases by the 12s to science and technology), apart from that, the rest of the educated world uses the metric system.
They wanted to standardize electronic equipment, so that different components could exchange data easily and work with each other. That’s why they came up with USB ports.
They wanted to be able to power appliances uniformly, so they came up with the standard 110V plugs, and the 220V plugs for bigger machines.
And then this B.S. Firefox/Safari and Internet Explorer. What the hell is this? Microsoft always tries to isolate themselves but have the dominancy at the same time. Think about the whole thing with the Rich Text format, and other issues in the past. Of course, now they’re losing market share. Late 2006, FF dominated 34%. I checked a few days ago, and it was 38%. It’s getting there.
Think about the lack of efficiency. As an industry, web developers have had to spend time researching methods to make their designs as identical as possible between browsers. We waste more time. Hence we need to charge more, because we know what’s coming. Hence our clients pay more money. And then at the end Microsoft is still up there making money because Windows and IE is still the most common among the general public.
I hope that changes soon. Of course, there’s always financial incentives to chase, but in the end, technology should better our lives and save resources and increase efficiency, not rake in more money by messing around with the standards just a tad.

why do u say the standard should be FF? Maybe FF is messing up the standards and IE does it right?
Cheezwhiz - The Mozilla engine is more commonly accepted as the better standard among developers… it works better and is more concise as far as I’m concerned. And although the organizations like W3 and what not asked microsoft to adhere to the standards, Microsoft always tries to do their own stuff to create a dominancy, instead of accepting open source.
That is why more and more people are going towards teh open source stuff.
I agree, microsoft’s stuff is much less secure anyways. look at the macs. they natively are immune to viruses. its a better breed. Same with FF. It’s much more secure.
Yes, I found that Firefox is much less vulnerable to malicious scripts and spyware attacks. Much safer than IE.
With IE, i used to have to brace myself for it.

Microsoft is crap, Too bad more don’t support Sony and Apple this way the 360 would die along with microsoft’s crappy Vista! Sadly, too many have been brainwashed into thinking Bill Gates is a good guy (instead of a cut throat git). I say DOWN WITH MICROSOFT!!!!!
